SMSF valuation is the one part of this work with a date already in the calendar. Every 30 June, every year, for every asset the fund holds — and the evidence has to be current, not carried forward.
Quick answer
SIS Regulation 8.02B requires SMSF assets to be carried at market value in the fund’s financial statements each 30 June. Trustees must be able to show the value was reached by a fair and reasonable process supported by objective, current evidence. Where property is a significant share of the fund, an independent valuation is the evidence auditors accept without qualification. Carrying the same figure across years is a documented driver of breach reports.
In this cluster
The 30 June obligation is annual and separate from any CGT event. An in-specie transfer out of the fund is a second date and needs its own figure — the 30 June value cannot be reused for it.
