This policy explains how Capital Gains Tax Valuations Pty Ltd handles personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.
We collect the information needed to prepare and deliver a valuation: your name, contact details, the property address, the details of the CGT event, and any documents you provide in support — contracts, rate notices, lease agreements, plans and photographs.
Your information is used to prepare your quote, carry out the valuation, deliver the report to you and any professional adviser you nominate, and meet our record-keeping obligations as a professional practice.
We disclose your information to the people you nominate — your accountant, solicitor or auditor — and to the valuer preparing your report. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not disclose it for marketing purposes.
Enquiries submitted through this website are also sent to a related valuation business, Asset Valuations Group, at admin@assetvaluations.com.au, so that an enquiry can be allocated to an available valuer. That copy contains what you put in the form: your name, email, phone number, the property address, the valuation date and your description of the CGT event. If you would prefer your enquiry not to be shared, email or phone us directly instead of using the form.
The enquiry form on this site posts to our own server. It is not a third-party embedded form and it loads no third-party script into your browser. We apply a hidden spam field, a submission-timing check and a per-connection rate limit to the form; no tracking or advertising technology is used.
Every enquiry is written to a private log on our server, which is not reachable from the web, so that an enquiry is not lost if mail delivery fails. We do not store your IP address in that log. The rate limiter records a one-way hash of the connection address and nothing else, and those hashes expire within fifteen minutes.
Email from the enquiry form is delivered through Resend, whose sending infrastructure for this domain is provisioned in the Tokyo region (Japan). Submitting the form therefore involves disclosing the information in it to an overseas recipient, as contemplated by Australian Privacy Principle 8. We use Resend only to transmit the enquiry; it is not used for marketing, profiling or analytics.
Valuation records themselves — the report, the evidence file and your supporting documents — are held in Australia and are not sent overseas.
Records are held in Australia and retained for the period required by the Australian Property Institute and our professional indemnity insurer. Access is restricted to the valuers and administrators who need it. Where information is transmitted by email, it passes through the mail provider described above.
You can request access to the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by emailing us. We respond within 30 days.
If you believe we have mishandled your personal information, email us with the details and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can refer the matter to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
